Dr Tomer Ventura leads the molecular genetics component of the research. His research is dedicated to better understanding the molecular mechanism underlying crustacean masculinity and metamorphosis. He pioneered the first application of single gene silencing in aquaculture to induce fully functional sex change in crustaceans. This has wide application for practicing monosex population culture through optimisation of gender characteristics. Dr Ventura's team contributes to CrustyBase.org, a community database for crustacean transcriptome data.
