The ARC Research Hub for Sustainable Onshore Lobster Aquaculture aims to build knowledge to establish the world’s first sustainable onshore lobster aquaculture industry focused on commercial, sustainable and socially acceptable lobster production from hatchery to market. The project will provide alternate solutions for lobster culture in bio-secure and cost effective onshore systems. The outcomes are targeted at positioning Australia at the forefront of onshore lobster aquaculture, with opportunity for technology transfer to other aquaculture sectors.
Innovation that Creates Opportunites
Benefits will include aquaculture solutions for lobster and other species, meeting market demand for premium seafood and developing world's first aquaculture technology. The development of a new Australian industry will deliver transformational change to lobster aquaculture, generate employment, research capacity and differentiated export offerings. Potential research outcomes include reduced environmental impacts, workforce training, new product development, improved aquaculture food safety and biosecurity, and the scientific advancement of ‘aquaculture’ as a critical technology.
We are harnessing the experience of a diverse group of researchers and industry partners to undertake world leading research focused on delivering commercially relevant practices and technology that will enable sustainable onshore rearing of hatchery produced lobsters.
